The Rhubarb Festival 2022

7th January 2022

Event overview

Rhubarb lovers rejoice! Wakefield’s celebration of its most famous vegetable returns to paint the city pink from 25-27 February.

The Rhubarb Festival is one of the first food and drink festivals in the national calendar – and in 2022 it promises to start things off with a bang!

The all-important food and drink market returns with over 50 chalets where you can sample and purchase local and regional delights, while families will enjoy gardening, growing and foraging workshops as well as lively street entertainment and music.

Curated by Yorkshire Food Guide, a programme of chef demos will run from 11am to 3pm from Friday to Sunday and will welcome Saturday Kitchen regular and food writer Sabrina Ghayour and GBBO 2021 vegan baker Freya Cox for the very first time. Other chefs include former GBBO contestant Karen Wright and MasterChef finalists Jono Hawthorne and Matt Healy. Local restaurants Iris and Qubana, and local star bakers, Castleford’s Bake My Daye, will also showcase their best rhubarb-inspired recipes.

Extend your stay with the Rhubarb Food & Drink Trail around the city, showcasing restaurants and bars putting on rhubarb themed food and drink throughout the weekend, as well as partner activities including family entertainment, fayres, crafts, workshops, and face painting at the Cathedral, the Ridings Shopping Centre and Trinity Walk.
