Spectrum People – 63 Bishopgate Walk
2020: The Other Side by Dawn Bland
Spectrum People is a small Wakefield-based charity which develops and provides meaningful activities for vulnerable people to help support their health and wellbeing. Their projects help young people and adults to overcome challenging circumstances and improve their confidence, resilience and skills over time.
Dawn Bland is a campaigning poet, artist, and survivor, who explores issues of mental health, homelessness, domestic violence, and addiction through her work.
As an expert by lived experience Dawn understands the difficulties faced by individuals with enduring mental health difficulties; particularly during lockdown when services were reduced and many vulnerable people were cut off from support networks.
Throughout lockdown Dawn realised that focusing on art and poetry had become a vital lifeline for her, a skill learnt through engagement in art therapy and community art groups.
