We recently opened two new businesses: Wear Desi, located on the upper mall, which sells stylish and contemporary Indian and Asian clothing and accessories, and Love Sofas, situated on the middle mall, opposite Primark. Love Sofas is a family-run business established in 2010, offering comfort, style, and value in its sofas.
We also have a flurry of new openings, including a new shoe store on the middle mall and a new concept coffee lounge also on the middle mall, in addition we are strengthening our leisure and food offering with the imminent opening of Top Falafel, on the upper mall, near Reel Cinema, they are a Syrian food business serving freshly-made traditional falafel, shawarma and other delights also on the upper mall is Eataly, which will be opening later this month, becoming an Italian food destination, selling pasta, pizza, folded sandwich’s and much more. In the new year, we will also be opening Wakefield’s first ‘Vegan cafe’ around our iconic Tree bar, on the upper mall.
To strengthen our existing entertainment offer, comprising of several eateries, the only city centre cinema – Reel cinema and the number one rated escape room on TripAdvisor, found in Escapable, both on the upper mall, we will be opening leisure activity centre for all the family, never seen before in Wakefield, in the former Wakefield Antiques and Collectables unit, who are relocating to a newer, modern unit on the middle mall.
On the lower mall, work is continuing at a pace to redevelop the mall, including a new floor, new shop fronts and external lighting, to an updated, modernised version of how it was in the early 80’s, an open-air shopping precinct. We have already had several businesses commit to opening early in the new year and will target more restaurants and entertainment businesses to complement the existing offerings from Aya Turkish restaurant, Pizza Pizza, and HFC Chicken. In addition, the area will be home to the new Yorkshire Artisan Outdoor Market, curated by Little Hummingbird Events, with the first one taking place on 8th November.
In addition, we have once again joined with the Art House to offer several units FREE of charge to local CIC, charities and community groups, under the joint umbrella brand of ‘Makey Wakey’, once again putting us firmly as being ‘At The Heart of Wakefield’.
