Whilst you’re getting your last minute holiday or back to school essentials, get ready to join in with more Summer fun at The Ridings as we bring three fantastic free family events to the centre this August. From magical wizards and enchanting mermaids to legendary heroes and villains, there’s something for visitors of all ages to enjoy. All events are completely free to attend and will take place from 10am until 4pm.
Saturday 22nd August | 10am to 4pm
Step into the world of heroes and villains with an exciting interactive display celebrating iconic characters and legendary weaponry.
Visitors can explore a collection of 15 impressive display pieces showcasing hero and villain weapons from throughout the ages. Young adventurers will also have the opportunity to pose for unique green screen photographs using child-friendly props, with their finished images shared exclusively via The Ridings’ social media channels.
The event will also feature superhero statues, providing fantastic photo opportunities throughout the day, plus a special guest appearance at selected times, adding even more excitement for visitors.

Wednesday 26th August | 10am to 4pm
Experience a magical day inspired by everyone’s favourite school of wizardry.
Visitors can capture the perfect photo at a spectacular Platform 9¾-inspired display, complete with a luggage trolley and themed backdrop. Young witches and wizards can also take part in hands-on craft workshops where they’ll create their very own school tie and magical wand to take home. After crafting their wands, visitors can use them in the themed photo opportunities, making for a truly memorable experience.
Dress-up accessories including cloaks and scarves will also be available to help complete the magical experience.

Saturday 29th August | 10am to 4pm
Dive beneath the waves for a magical underwater-themed experience that’s perfect for little adventurers.
Children can take a seat on a stunning giant seashell throne and pose for photographs against an enchanting ocean-inspired backdrop. Mermaid tail props will also be available, allowing visitors to transform into mystical sea creatures and create unforgettable family photos.
With beautiful scenery and plenty of opportunities for memorable pictures, Mermaid Magic is the perfect way to round off our Summer of Magic and Adventure programme.
